Who I am

Kim Beggs, The Balanced Blog

My website address is: https://thebalancedblog.co.uk/

What is classed as personal data?

Personal data in a broad sense is any information that could be used to identify you (such as your name, date of birth, email address, IP address, etc). Often, a single piece of information isn’t enough to identify you but using multiple pieces of personal information could be used to identify you directly.

What personal data I collect and why

I try and limit any personal data I collect to a minimum and aim to only keep this information as long as I feel is necessary. There are some instances where I am legally obliged to keep your information for a determined period of time.

Personal information I collect:

  • Email address (if you agree to sign up to my newsletter)

Cookies

Cookies are files with a small amount of data, which may include an anonymous unique identifier. Cookies are sent to your browser from a website and stored on your computer’s hard drive. I use “cookies” to collect information. You can instruct your browser to refuse all cookies or to indicate when a cookie is being sent.

How do I use cookies?

As most of the online services, our website uses first-party and third-party cookies for several purposes. First-party cookies are mostly necessary for the website to function the right way, and they do not collect any of your personally identifiable data.

The third-party cookies used on our website are mainly for understanding how the website performs, how you interact with our website, keeping our services secure, providing advertisements that are relevant to you, and all in all providing you with a better and improved user experience and help speed up your future interactions with our website.

Analytics

I collect information that your browser sends whenever you visit our website (“Log Data”). This Log Data may include information such as your computer’s Internet Protocol (“IP”) address, browser type, browser version, the pages of our website that you visit, the time and date of your visit, the time spent on those pages, and other statistics.

How long do I retain your data?

If you leave a comment on my site, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so I can recognise and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.

I keep any email correspondence for 24 months by default.

What rights do you have over your data?

You can request that I erase any personal data I hold about you at any time. This does not include any data that I am legally required to keep for legal or security purposes.

Additional information

I do link to other websites from my own website (such as Instagram, etc). I cannot vouch for the privacy practices of these third-party companies and urge you to read their privacy policy to understand how they handle your personal data.

I will periodically update my privacy policy as necessary to make sure I keep you informed of any changes within the business that might impact you.
